OPEN DAY Sat 11th October 8.30am-2pm
Owen Curtis manages activities offered through this Shed. The activity program offered at NMS is the Be Fitter Program. Held in the Gym area, this exercise program has been designed to be safe, self-paced, progressive and targets all the components of fitness. Since its inception more than 7000 member/sessions have been conducted.
NMS members who would like to be involved are required to be cleared for participation by their GP. A completed Medical Clearance Form and Informed Consent available from the Offcie must be returned before commencing the program. In general, Owen will ’ walk and talk’ you through your first session to ensure you are aware of the processes involved and how you are best able to manage the intensity of your exercise program.
The hour sessions are conducted on Monday and Wednesday 7:30 and 8:30am, Tues and Thursday 7:30.
Local experts are invited to your Shed to provide information about health-related areas of interest. These talks are usually conducted on Tuesday mornings commencing at 10:15 after Smoko. Although topics are usually health-related, we have invited people with particular expertise in other areas to support our members.
First Aid and CPR workshops are held annually and members are encouraged to become competent in applying information contained in these courses because it helps in keeping our members safe.
Owen keeps in contact with University of The Sunshine Coast and informs members of opportunities to participate in studies conducted through the Uni.
